Fan Slab

Fan Slab is a cathedral like community art space set in bushy Warburton, with community access to studio workshops, gallery and a light filled library. The building was modeled from by the Fan Slab from ‘10001 Site-less Forms’, the shape undergoing enlargement, widening and stretching, then copied and scaled to create a light filled courtyard space.0

The fan shape was left creating a beautiful architectural timber clad vaulted roof. Floor to ceiling windows encapsulate the courtyard and make use of the northernly aspect for the library fan.

The design and materiality is clean, smooth and light becoming a clear difference to the unruliness of the bush out side. A beautiful spiral staircase takes you to the mezzanine library where people can share knowledge together.
