Job Warehouse
(A Second Chance)
The Job Warehouse building is being reimagined as a vibrant, community-focused hub operated by The Salvation Army. This redevelopment includes three unique spaces: an Op-Shop retail space, a community-oriented event and gallery venue, and Melbourne’s first 24-hour non-profit restaurant. Each space is designed to create employment opportunities, support local artists, and direct all profits toward The Salvation Army’s homelessness services.
The Op-Shop will offer a curated collection of pre-loved items, inviting the community to participate in a creditand-donation scheme where donated items earn store credits, half of which support rough sleepers. Items unsuitable for resale will be sent for textile recycling, reducing waste and promoting eco-conscious practices. The event and gallery space will provide an affordable platform for local artists and small businesses to exhibit, sell their work, and host gatherings, supporting Melbourne’s creative scene and fostering community engagement.
This adaptable venue will also be available for workshops, training, and Salvation Army events. The 24-hour non-profit restaurant will serve affordable, nutritious meals while providing hospitality training, creating an inclusive, hands-on learning environment. Together, these spaces will transform the Job Warehouse into a community hub that merges social enterprise with support services, honouring the building’s heritage while serving Melbourne’s evolving needs
